15th INTERNATIONAL MEETING of the FAO-CIHEAM Subnetwork on Mediterranean Forage Resources
The meeting will be held in Orestiada (12 – 14 April 2016), located in North-eastern Greece (close to Alexandroupolis Airport).

Papers related to the general topic of the meeting are requested. They will be discussed in the following sessions:
SESSION 1. Managing ecosystem services and livestock production in the Mediterranean region.
Best management practices to combine forage production and other benefits of Mediterranean grasslands.
SESSION 2. Improvement of range, pasture and forage species including alternative uses
Plant genetic diversity benefits. Drought tolerant grass and legume species or genotypes to maintain forage production. Alternative uses (turfgrass, medicinal, bioenergy, etc).
SESSION 3. Socio-economic benefits of sustainable grassland management
Managed properly, grasslands can reduce the costs of feed supplements for livestock, thereby reducing the cost to raise the animal and food costs to consumers. Cultural benefits, such as spiritual and recreational.
SESSION 4. Rehabilitation of Mediterranean grasslands
Grassland rehabilitation for forage production, aesthetics, conservation purposes. Ecotechnologies for improving plant establishment.

Announcement of FAO-CIHEAM Network on Sheep and Goats
The Organising Committee of the Seminar of the FAO-CIHEAM Network on Sheep and Goats to be held in Montpellier (France) on 16–18 June 2015 on the topic “The value chain in Mediterranean sheep and goats. Industry organisation, marketing strategies, feeding and production systems” has decided to postpone the deadline for the submission of proposals to 15 December 2015.
